The Delta: On the Sacramento River, sturgeon fishing was hampered by the high winds last week. Those being caught were out of Cache and Prospect sloughs, using shrimp baits, pile worms and eel if you can find any.
Trollers for stripers were fishing in the Sandy Beach area down to Collinsville, using Yo-Zuris and P-Line Predators. Most fish caught were small males from 6-9 pounds. The females should start showing up anytime.
Bait fishermen are fishing the mouth of Broad Slough, Sherman Island and the south tip of Decker Island, using shad and sardines.
Bass anglers are using Senkos and Robo Worms, and Reaction Innovation’s Beavers and other crawdad type baits.
On the San Joaquin River, trollers are concentrating in the areas of the mouth of False River, San Andreas and Santa Clara Shoals, and the Sounding Board, using Rebels, deep-diving Predators and Yo-Zuris. Some trollers are using spreaders and jigs.
Most bait fishermen are using shad and sardines in the areas of San Andreas and Santa Clara Shoals to the mouth of Three-Mile Slough. Fish are running up to 10 pounds.
Bass fishermen are throwing Crank Baits, Robo Worms, frogs and crawdad type baits.
Pardee: Local anglers reported catching kokanee to 12 pounds from 20- to 40-feet depths, using Orange Uncle Larry’s Lures near the orange buoy by the dam. Another local fisherman trolled up the river, catching trout up to 19 inches, with Uncle Larry’s and Mr. Kokanee lures behind Vance’s Green Dodgers tipped with nightcrawlers.
Bank fishermen are using Berkley PowerBait in Garlic flavored Salmon Peach and Berkley Mice Tails and Power Eggs.
Don Pedro: Fishermen are trolling for salmon in the dam and Middle Bay areas, rolling shad and also using Ex-Cel Lures, Mag Tackle Predator Spoons, and small Brad’s Lures at 60-90 feet.
There is not too much to say for kokanee, but a few are being caught in the Jenkin’s Hill area, using Mr. Kokanee spinners and Mag Tackle Micro Hoochies behind a Dodger. Best depths are 15-35 feet.
Trout up to 16 inches are being caught from depths of 20-25 feet, using Needlefish and Kastmasters.
Spotted bass and large mouth are best using drop shot and plastics.
Lake Camanche: Frank Lungi was trolling at Big Hat and the dam area, using Rapalas and Needlefish and caught four trout from 8 to 8.5 pounds.
Bank fishing in the lake and at the Southshore Pond is still working well on Berkley PowerBait and Power Eggs in any Garlic scented colors.
Bass fishing is improving.
New Melones: Trout fishing has picked up this past week. The areas that produced were the spillway, Peoria Cove and Black Bear. Best depths were 15-20 feet, using Rapalas F7s and F9s, Needlefish, Rocky Mountain Spoons and Apexes.
Kokanee fishing is best in Coyote Creek, the Highway 49 Bridge area and down into the main body of the lake and Rose Island. Best depths are 15-25 feet, using Mr. Kokanee, Uncle Larry’s, Spinners, Mag Tackle and GVF spinners and hoochies. The best Dodgers have been GVF, Vance’s and Mr. Kokanee.
Bait fishermen are at Glory Hole Point and Angels Cove, using Berkley PowerBait, Berkley Trout worms and Mice Tails.
Ocean: David Portscheller and his friend from Lodi caught four salmon up to 12 pounds outside Moss Landing, trolling 3 mph at 70-120 feet. They were using Rotary Killers with Herring behind a Watermelon Dodger; however, most fish were caught using Purple Haze Hoochies behind Watermelon Dodgers or Gold Krocodiles and Silver/Blue Krocodiles. Pro-Cure Herring gel was used on all lures.
Other anglers launched out of Half Moon Bay last weekend, and caught easy limits both days using Watermelon Apexes and trolling anchovies. They caught salmon up to 32 inches and a lot of shorter fish. They observed a lot of action in other boats.
Most fish out of Bodega Bay came out of the mouth of Tamales down to Ten-Mile Beach.

The Kids Matter Second Annual Fishing Derby will be held May 20 at Weber Point/Waterfront in Stockton.
