The Delta: Not many reports with the weather and holiday, but traditionally, the best area for striper trollers this time of year on the Sacramento River are the Old Dairy, Decker Island, West Bank, Sherman Island, Broad Slough and Montezuma Slough.

Best lures to use are Bombers, shallow running Yozuris, Rebels and Pucci Angry Eyes.

Weather permitting, bait fishermen have been fishing anywhere from Rio Vista Bridge to Broad Slough. Best baits for stripers are always shad, sardines and mudsuckers.

Best luck fishing for sturgeon is in the areas of lights 2, 5, 8 33, 44, Power Lines and Pittsburg Power Plant, using common baits; shrimp baits, eel and roe.

Be cautious for floating debris as there have been reported huge blocks of wood just below the surface that would do some real damage to a boat.

Weather, Holiday and Hyacinths have hampered the fishing this past week on the San Joaquin River. The hyacinths and starting to thin out a little.

Best areas to try fishing would be Middle River, Sounding Board and the San Andreas Shoals to the area of Antioch Bridge. Use shad, sardines, mudsuckers and jumbo minnows.

Trollers are working Discovery Bay, the Mokelumne system, False River, and the Eddos area, using deep-diving Rebels, P-Line Predators, Yozuris and Bombers.

Lake Amador: Not many reports, but bank fishermen have been using Berkeley PowerBait, Berkeley Trout Worms, Mice Tails and nightcrawlers. Some anglers are casting from the bank with Kastmasters, Rooster Tails, Krockodiles and Magic Bullets.

Trollers are using Meps Cyclops, Needlefish, Excel Lures, and Rocky Mountain Serpent Lures.

Lake Camanche: Trollers are working the river channel all the way to the dam, Rabbit Creek, Big Hat and Little Hat. Anglers report using Grubs, Excel Spoons, R-Lures, Needlefish, Rapalas, Mag Tackle and Rocky Mountain Spoons. Kim Murdock and Robbie Dunham took limits on Christmas Day, using R-Lures, Excel Lures and grubs.

Bait fishermen are working the spillway, Little Hat and in all of the upriver coves, using Berkeley PowerBait with a Berkeley Egg in white and pink colors. Garlic-scented baits are very successful.

If you are fishing the south shore pond, use Berkeley PowerBait, Mice Tails and casting lures like Kastmasters and Magic Bullets.

New Melones: Trollers are working the main body of the lake, the dam area, and some anglers are picking up bigger fish using shad-patterned lures, Needlefish, Excels and Rapalas.

Bank fishermen are doing very well at Glory Hole Point, Angel's Cove and Tuttle Town Ramp using Berkeley PowerBait, Berkeley Mice Tails and nightcrawlers with a marshmallow. Some anglers are casting Kastmasters, spinners and small crank baits.

Fishing is good at Melones in the top 10 feet of water with spoons like Meps Cyclops at 1.5 mph; also, pull a nightcrawler behind a Dodger. Other spoons to use are Excels, R-lures and Rapalas at a slightly faster speed of 1.5 to 3 mph.

Ocean: Crabbing is still good. Bottom fishing is still good, but ends Dec. 31.

Notes: 2013 fishing licenses are available now. ... Sturgeon cards now cost $8.13 and are a completely separate purchase if you received a license for Christmas.
