The Delta: On the Sacramento River, the wind didn’t seem to stop the striper fishing this week. White caps and all, fish were being caught. Trollers are working areas of Isleton, the old Dairy, West Bank and Steamboat Slough, using Rebels, Bombers, P-Line Angry Eyes, P-Line Predators and shallow-running Yozuris.

Bait fishermen are using shad and sardines near the Rio Vista Bridge down to the Decker Island and Broad Slough.

Sturgeon fishermen are working Cache Slough using salmon roe, eel and shrimp baits.

In the lower Delta, anglers are fishing Montezuma Slough and the Mothball Fleet, using eel, shrimp baits, blood and pile worms.

On the San Joaquin, the best areas for striper trollers have been the mouth of False River to the Peacocks, Santa Clara and San Andreas shoals, the Sounding Board, Old River Flats and up the Mokelumne River to B&W and Georgiana Slough. Kita Till and her brother, Tim, fished Georgiana Slough on Monday and caught three nice stripers; they kept only two, at 13 and 10 pounds. They were using deep-diving Yozuris. Fishermen are also pulling Rebels, Bombers and the P-Line Lures. Other anglers are pulling shallow-diving lures as well. Red and white seems to be the hot color reported this week.

Bait fishermen are fishing the San Andreas and Santa Clara shoals down to Eddos, using shad and sardines. Fish are running keeper size up to an occasional fish in the teens.

Bass anglers are pitching crawdad-type baits, Senkos and Spinner Baits along the rip-rap. Top-water lures are doing really good, such as Frogs, Zara Spooks and Buzz Baits.

Lake Amador: Trollers are pulling Rapalas in black and silver and gold and orange; also grubs behind Dodgers and pulling large flashers with nightcrawlers.

Bank fishermen are using Berkeley PowerBait in garlic flavors. Best colors have been chartreuse, rainbow and Captain America. They’re also casting Kastmasters, Magic Bullets and small Krocodiles.

Lake Pardee: Kokanee fishermen are doing very well, fishing the mouth of the river and the main part of the lake. Best lures have been small Dodgers with Mini Hoochies and Uncle Larry’s spinners, Mr. Kokanee spinners and Mag Tackle tipped with a kernel of shoepeg corn.

Trout trollers are working the main body of the lake to the south end, pulling Rapalas, Needlefish, Apexes and Excel Lures.

Lake Camanche: Trolling has been slow due to winds. Best areas have been Big Hat and the dam. Best depths have been 25-30 feet.

Fishing the south shore Pond has been very good with the usual PowerBait, Berkeley Trout Worms, PowerBait, Berkeley Mice Tails and Kastmasters.

The top water bite is on for the black bass. They’re catching fish up to 8 pounds on top-water lures, Senkos and Carolina Rigs.

New Melones: The kokanee are fat, fishing Glory Hole Point back to Angel’s Cover, the middle of the lake and the dam area. Best depth is 20-55 feet. Best lures are Rocky Mountain Dodgers, Vance’s Dodger and Mag Tackle Dodgers with Micro Hoochies, Uncle Larry’s spinners, and GVF spinners and Mag Tackle Spinners.

Trout trollers are pulling small Dodgers with a nightcrawler, Rapalas, Needlefish and Excels. They have been rolling shad for the Browns down 35-45 feet.

Bank fishing has slowed down significantly due to warming of the water, as well as release of water. Use cut baits; sardines and mackerel for catfish.

Bass anglers are throwing swim baits, dropping shotting and jigs.

Ocean: Salmon fishing has been very good this week in the areas of Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay and Bodega.

Event: The Central Valley Anglers Striper Derby at Rio Vista will be held this Saturday starting at 6 a.m., with weigh-in from 2-3 p.m. For more information, call Dave Douglas at 209-327-1740.
