The Delta: On the Sacramento River, the best areas for salmon have been the Old Sac area and the Long Island area up to Walnut Grove. Sean McClerkin went out of Vieira’s to the Old Sac near the Rio Vista Bridge last Friday afternoon and caught a 28-pound salmon within five minutes of putting his line in the water.

He was trolling a Kwikfish K14. Brian Welk took his son, Cody, fishing in the Walnut Grove area on Saturday and Cody, 9, caught an 18-pound salmon. Most fish are running 10-20 pounds. The best lures have been Silvertrons, Blue Foxes and Radical Glow spinners, Kwikfish and Brad’s Cut Plugs.

Striper trollers have been having the best luck on the West Bank down to Collinsville, using shallow-running YoZuris, Angry Eyes and Bombers.

Best areas for bait fishing for stripers are The Rio Vista Bridge and Decker and Sherman islands, using shad, sardines and anchovies.

San Joaquin River: Striper fishermen are trolling the areas of San Andreas and Santa Clara Shoals down to False River, using YoZuris, Rebels and Bombers.

Bait fishermen are fishing in the areas of the mouth of the Mokelumne, San Andreas and Santa Clara Shoals and Eddos, using shad, sardines and anchovies.

Black Bass anglers are doing well, using spinner, chatter and buzz baits and frogs.

Pardee: Kokanee trollers are fishing the areas of the mouth of the river, Deer Island and Box Canyon, using Mag Tackle pink and orange and blue Hoochies.

Best colors are orange, red, blues, and pink and white. Tip your hook with shoepeg corn. Best scents are Pro-Cure garlic, anise and bloody tuna.

Trout trollers are working the main lake and dam area, using Uncle Larry’s Pro-Spinners in fire tiger or copper with a threaded nightcrawler. Best lures have been Kastmasters, Needlefish and Excel Lures.

Bait fishermen are using Berkley PowerBait, Mice Tails and Trout Worms. Best areas are the marina out to the brush pile. They are still planting trout, so the chance of catching fish is great.

Don Pedro: The kokanee are still on the move. One of the hot areas is Middle Bay. The fish are holding in the structures at 80-105 feet. Use Apex Lures in pink, watermelon and Kevorkian, Mag Tackle, Vance’s Dodgers, Rocky Mountain Dodgers, Rocky Mountain Hoochies in pink and white, orange and watermelon, as well as Uncle Larry’s GVF and Mr. Kokanee spinners. As you go deeper, use darker colors.

They’re also picking up salmon in the Wood Creek arm, trolling shad behind a Dodger. They’re also using Needlefish, Excels and Mag’s Predator spoons.

Best baits for largemouth bass are Senko worms in green pumpkin, Robo worms and jigs in the back of Woods Creek and coves.

Lake Camanche: Trout trolling has slowed due to the hot weather. Night fishing is your best bet right now. No moving on the water at night, you must stay on the lake. Best baits are nightcrawlers and PowerBait.

Trout fishermen are catching limits in the dam area, using Rapalas, Needlefish and Excels in fire tiger. Another angler caught his limit using Green PowerBait in the Houseboat Cove.

Night fishermen using night lights are having a good time. Best baits are PowerBait and nightcrawlers, as well as Berkley Mice Tails.

The catfish bite is still good all over the lake, using mackerel, sardines, chicken livers and turkey livers. Catfish are reported up to 6 pounds.

Black Bass anglers are using Senkos off the peninsula area.

New Melones: Kokanee fishing is still wide open. Hottest areas are the Highway 49 bridge, Carson Cove, Glory Hole point to the spillway, Rose Island and the dam area. Best depth is 50-65 feet. Best lures have been pink and white, pink and purple and blue and chartreuse Hoochies, GVF spinners, Uncle Larry’s spinners and Rocky Mountain and Mag Tackle Hoochie Spinners, pulled behind your favorite Dodger.

Trout trollers are working the main body and the dam area, using Apexes, Needlefish and Uncle Larry’s Pro Spinners with nightcrawlers, catching rainbows and browns.

Night fishing for trout is best right now in the spillway area, dam area and off of the south tip of Rose Island. Try Berkley PowerBait, Power Eggs, nightcrawlers and small minnows.

Bass anglers are out in the early morning, using rip baits and buzz baits.

Ocean: Salmon fishing has been easy limits one day and not so easy the next, reported from all ports. Best baits have been anchovies and herring. Top lures have been Apexes in watermelon and blue and chrome, and Kevorkian and Brad’s Cut Plugs in watermelon.
