The early morning Kokanee bite at New Melones has slowed this week, providing the best bite later in the day. Kokanee are now in the main lake and settling in deeper. Anglers are trolling at 50-80 feet. The largest and greater congregations are around Rose Island and the dam.
Hoochies, Wedding Rings and Apex’s have been doing well. Either in pink, orange or purple. Run your lures behind Slingblades or Dodgers in the same color family. Always tip your hooks with shoepeg corn and apply scent liberally. The best scents have been Kokanee Special, Garlic, and Anise. The Central Valley Anglers Derby is this weekend.
