The Delta: Salmon fishing is great on the Sacramento River. The numbers and weights are picking up weekly out of Vieira's, Wimpy's and Walnut Grove up to Sacramento.

Sean McClerkin and his son, Hudson, were fishing Old Sac last Saturday, trolling Silvertons. They dropped their lines in and had a 6-pounder and a 20-pounder within 10 minutes.

Gary Graham and Sandy Lieting, Dan Richardson, Marty Morfey, Steve Quintal, Ted Coffey and Fred Nakagawa reported that 80 percent of the boats out there had fish tied up and of those, many had their limits. Most fish were being caught using Blue Fox spinners, Scarey Lures, Radical Glows and Silvertrons.

Sacramento River: Striper trollers are working Horseshoe Bend, West Bank, all the way down to Collinsville, pulling shallow water YoZuris, Bombers and Pucci Angry Eyes. If you get into the deeper water, use deep diving Rebels, YoZuris and Pucci Predators.

Best areas for bait fishing are Decker Island, Power Lines, Collinsville and Broad Slough, using Shad and Sardines.

San Joaquin River: Striper trollers are fishing the Mokelumne, San Andreas and Santa Clara Shoals all the way down to Peacock. Most fish are running up to 9 pounds. Best lures are deep-diving Pucci Predators and Rebels.

Bait fishing is best around the Sounding Board all the way down to Eddos. Best baits are Shad, Sardines and Anchovies.

Black Bass anglers had a great top-water bite this past weekend for the last three hours of the day — on the last of the incoming and beginning of the outgoing tide. They were catching fish in the backwater sloughs, just off the main channel, using Frogs, buzz baits and Pop-R's.

Pardee: Most of the kokanee are staging and going up river, so the best area to troll is from the mouth up the river all the way to Grapevine Gulch. Best lures are Vance's Dodgers, Rocky Mountain Dodgers, Hoochies and Mag Tackle spinner Hoochies. Best scents for the corn are Pro-Cure garlic, anise and bloody tuna. Best depths have been 80-110 feet.

Trout trollers are working the main lake and dam area, as well as trolling upriver, using GVF spinners, Uncle Larry's and Wedding Ring, tipped with a nightcrawler. Best depths have been 25-50 feet.

Bait fishermen are using Berkley PowerBait, Mice Tails and Trout Worms. Best areas are the marina to the brush pile.

Lake Camanche: Trout fishing is still producing fish by the dam at depths to 45 feet. Best baits are nightcrawlers, Rapalas, Excel Lures, R-Lures and Mag Tackle Predator lures. Night fishing at the dam area has been very good.

The catfish bite is still good, using cut baits, chicken livers, and mackerel.

New Melones: The kokanee bite is still fantastic. Best areas are the dam and spillway area, from Rose Island to Glory Hole and in Carson Cove all the way to the Highway 49 Bridge. The fish have dropped down to 70-90 feet. Use larger Dodgers and Hoochies. Some anglers have been hooking two Sling Blades together with larger Hoochies to catch fish.

Trout trollers are doing fantastic using nightcrawlers, R-Lures, Excels and Mag Tackle's Predators, working the main body, the dam and Carson Cove and catching rainbows up to 4 pounds.

Some nice Catfish are reported out of Carson Cove and off the Tuttle Town boat ramp area, using cut baits, liver and nightcrawlers. Fishermen are catching fish up to 7-8 pounds.

Ocean: Local Fishermen are producing excellent numbers of salmon in the Bodega Bay and San Francisco areas, producing limits. Big fish are running in the 20-pound range. Best baits have been trolling anchovies and herring. Top lures have been Apexes and Brad's Cut Plugs. Best depths have been 40-60 feet in most areas.

The anglers fishing out of San Francisco, Bodega Bay and Lawson's Landing report Halibut fishing is very slow.

There are still decent reports of tuna out of Monterey and Half Moon Bay. Bottom fishing has been very good out of Bodega Bay.

Local fisherman Mike Faught is the owner of Fisherman's Friend in Lodi. To view the Fisherman's Friend website go to www.mrkokanee.com.
