The Delta: In the Sacramento River, striper trollers are working closer to the edge of the channel, Horseshoe, Decker Island and the Old Dairy. The best lures are Rebels, Bombers and Yozuris. Bait fishermen are using shad and sardines, with fishing running up to the low teens.

Salmon fishing is hot now. Fish are being caught out of the Sacramento and the Mokelumne.

The weather was fantastic last Saturday for the Central Valley Anglers Salmon Derby. There were 65 participants and 41 fish were caught. Ted Coffee took first place with a fish over 23 pounds, second place went to Don Lamar with a 21-pounder and in third place was Marty Morfey with an 18-pounder.

Camanche is releasing more surges down river now, so there should be more fish in the Mokelumne. The locks closed on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and will reopen today and before closing for the season next Monday.

Use Silverton’s, Blue Foxes, Daigre QMS, Scarey Lures, Brad’s Cut Plugs with anchovie or bloody tuna scents.

In the San Joaquin River, striper trollers are using Yozuris, P-Line Predators, Angry Eyes and Rebels, catching fish up to 10.5 pounds. The best places have been Old River, False River and Three-Mile Slough.

Bait fishermen are catching fish using shad, anchovies and sardines. Most fish are running keeper size to 10 pounds, fishing the sounding board, the mouth of the Mokelumne, Santa Clara and San Andreas Shoals down to Eddos.

There has been a report of fishermen drifting minnows in the turning basin. Black Bass anglers report using top water lures, such as Frogs and Buzzbaits. They are also using Spinner Baits and Crank Baits.

Pardee: Trout fishing is good for some and slow for others. The catfish bite is great in the south end of the lake, using chicken livers, sardines and mackerel, catching fish up to eight pounds.

Bank fishing is on the slow side. The best baits are PowerBait, night crawlers and salmon eggs in the marina area.

Trout fishing is good at Lake Camanche. It is best to troll 30 to 40 feet down with Excels, Needlefish, Rapalas. The best places are the dam area to Big Hat, working the river channel.

Catfishing is going great in the coves. When the water cools a little more, the planting will start — possibly in the next two to three weeks.

New Melones Lake and Hogan are closed by the government for now.

Ocean: There are good reports from all areas of the Bay. Salmon fishermen are using Tray Baits, Apexes, Brad’s Cut Plugs and Dodger or Hoochies.
