The Delta: The water temperatures in the Sacramento have dropped up to 5 degrees in the last week and as a result the salmon bite has picked up with numerous salmon being landed each day from Rio Vista, up through Freeport. Most salmon are being caught on Silvertrons, Kwikfish trolling and Blue Foxes and Flying “Cs” from shore. Back-trolling in front of Vieira’s and Ko-Ket’s have been producing salmon, too. Most boaters are using spreaders with 1 to 5 ounces of weight depending on the tides, or use inline keel weights on the Old Sac in the Walnut Grove area.

The striped bass bite is good in Broad Slough, Sherman, Decker islands and the Dairy on bait and trolling shallow and deep divers. Anglers need to try several areas looking for the schools.

Striped bass was off and on last week in the San Joaquin. Try shallow trolling on Santa Clara and San Andreas shoals. Drift minnows from Mildred Island up to the Stockton Turning Basin.

Bait fishermen are fishing in False River using sardines and anchovies.

No signs or reports of salmon in the Mokelumne. When Camanche begins the pulse flows the salmon bite should take off.

The largemouth bite continues to be strong in the sloughs off of the San Joaquin, including Frank’s Tract and Mildred Island. Senkos, dropshotting and crankbaits are all working well.

Camanche: The lake is low, but the boat ramps are still open. Catfish and bass are your best bets. The catfish are still in the cove and shallows, but with the cool nights and rain the catfish will be moving into deeper water. Sardines, liver, Kat-Nip and nightcrawlers are the best baits. Bass are over structure, Crankbaits and plastics are working well on the largemouth.
