Jim Pickens: Bass run building in the Delta

The Delta: The salmon bite has slowed on the Sacramento side of the Delta, with only a few reportedly being caught from Vierra’s up through Garcia Bend. The Mokelumne is still producing salmon, but most are smokers at this point.

Jim Pickens: Salmon hitting in Mokelumne River

Ocean: The crab opener was outstanding and with better weather in the forecast it should get even better. The crabs are of commercial size and quality. What makes it even more enticing is the quality of rock and ling’s you can pick up after dropping your crab cages.

Jim Pickens: Salmon bite still steady in the Delta

The delta: The salmon bite remains steady as the water continues to cool. With continued cooler weather and rain in the forecast it should be a good bite for the rest of the salmon season and motivate the salmon still in the ocean to make their push to their spawning grounds. The incoming tides remain the best times to be fishing for salmon.

Jim Pickens: Rainbow bite is bright at Camanche

The Delta: The salmon bite is good some days and the next you have to put in the time to land one on the Sacramento. Good news is the water temperatures continue to drop, which should kick the salmon bite in gear. More good news for the salmon anglers in the Delta is the ocean bite for salmon is still strong with many large salmon being taken.

Jim Pickens: Bass bite picking up at Melones

Delta: The salmon bite remained strong in the Benica and Antioch areas. With the higher than usual temperatures the water in the Walnut Grove area has risen back to 70-72 degrees and the high winds slowed the bite some.

Jim Pickens: Catfish bite still strong at Camanche

The Delta: The salmon bite continues to improve in the Delta. They are moving through quicker than usual, but the cooler water has increased their strike response. Water temps are staying between 67 and 70 degrees. As the temps drop for the fall the bite should open up.

Jim Pickens: Salmon finally starting to bite along Delta

Ocean: The bite slowed over the weekend, mostly due to poor weather conditions. But the bite picked up and is in full swing again outside the gate all the way up to Bodega Bay. Anglers are again averaging one Salmon per rod. Large Ling and abundant Rock fish continue to be taken up and down the coast. Striped Bass bite has picked up in the throughout the Bay.

Jim Pickens: New wave of salmon coming this direction

Ocean: The bite continues to be solid for salmon outside of the Golden Gate. More reports of another large school pushing its way through the Gate and heading in our direction. Duxbury, Rocky Point and the shipping channel continue to produce a one fish per rod average. Large ling and abundant rock fish continue to be taken up and down the coast.

Jim Pickens: Bash fishing still good in the Delta

Ocean: Good salmon fishing outside the Gate in the areas of Duxbury, Rocky Point and the shipping channel continue to produce. Large ling and abundant rock fish continue to be taken up and down the coast. The striped bass bite picked up in the bay this week with some large fish being taken and shark fishing has really improved the last two weeks.

Ocean: Good weather this week and continued great Salmon fishing along the Marin coast has enticed many anglers from Bodega Bay down to the Gate to pursue them. The average is still near one salmon per rod with many fish in the 20 plus pound range. White Sea Bass have continued to be caught all the way up to Bodega Bay.

Jim Pickens: Fishing in Sierra streams, lakes still productive

Ocean: Salmon fishing continues to be very productive from Bodega Bay down along the Marin coast to the Gate. The average is still near one salmon per rod with many fish in the 20 — pound range. With the warm water along the Marin coast, most success for salmon has been on the bottom. Trolling and mooching are both producing.

Jim Pickens: Stripers making their way through the Delta

Ocean: Salmon fishing along the Marin coast was excellent early in the week. Many limits taken and just as many lost at the boat. Best action for salmon on or near the bottom in the 80- to 100-foot range. Some anglers still mooching but the best action is coming from trolling anchovies, herring and Apex’s.

Jim Pickens: Catfish still a catch at Camanche

Ocean: Salmon fishing continues to be solid from the Golden Gate up through Bodega Bay along the Marin coast. The Golden Gate continues to improve each week, most fish in the 20-pound range. Trolling anchovies, herring has taken a front seat to mooching this week as the squid boats worked the Bodega Bay area. The salmon are still on the bottom in the 80 to 100-foot depth. Rock and ling fishing continues to be outstanding up and down the coast, out to the Farallons and into the bay.

Jim Pickens: Salmon season starts slow in the Delta, but bass still biting

Ocean: Salmon fishing from Bodega Bay north is wide open with fish in excess of 30 pounds taken daily. Winds and seas have calmed making the fishing more enjoyable.
