Despite already being considered a literal shoo-in for a section football playoff berth, the Lodi Flames were not about to leave anything to chance. Senior running back Jordan Perkins rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns and also returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for another score as Lodi blew out Chavez, 48-7, in the regular season finale for both teams at Chavez High on Friday night.

With the win, the Flames (7-3, 4-1 San Joaquin Athletic Association) clinched the SJAA  No. 2 seed and an automatic playoff berth while the Titans (4-6, 3-2 SJAA) just missed out on reaching the postseason after rebounding from a 1-5 start, including three league wins in a row.

Tom, how they could even suggest that we would have a chance of a home playoff game this week was all bull anyway. We had no chance of making the top eight seeds based on record, head to head and OW-opponents wins. We finished as high as we could.

Good luck flames! I think we a great chance with the draw we received. Turlock has a QB that is a lot like Walding from St. Mary's. 1000 yard passer and rusher. Signed to play short stop at UCLA. Also have a 1000 yard back that is their leading receiver. We match up well against them. We are clicking with Perkins back and this should make for a offensive slugfest.

"...the Flames also boosted their chances of hosting a first-round playoff game at the newly renovated Grape Bowl, which may potentially open next Friday."

Why in the world would the CIF agree to host a game at a stadium that is not ready yet? A stadium that was supposed to be ready 10 weeks ago? A stadium that has not had a game played at it all year and which no one knows if there will be sufficient restrooms, concessions, or even if the lights work? With the way this project has gone, does anyone really trust this contractor or this city for the most important football game these kids have played in 5 years?

Erin should secure McNair HS for us to use so we at least get a familiar or nuetral location to play our playoff game. She should be burning up the phones this morning assuring the CIF that we can host a game at McNair. Because if I am Pete Sacto, I am not comfortable giving Lodi a home game in a stadium that is not for sure going to be ready.

What a shame that the city's incompetence has gotten us to this point. Hey Lodi government - we don't need no stinkin' grape bowl. Home is where ever these outstanding road warriors suit up.

Congratulations Flames on an outstanding season. We know you will make us proud in the playoffs.
