After the first game ended with a score of 33-31, it was no surprise that Tuesday's first-round Sac-Joaquin Section playoff match between No. 11 Lodi and No. 6 Golden Valley went to five games. Even after the Flames rallied from dropping Game 1 with victories in Games 2 and 3, Lodi was unable to pull out the win, falling to the Cougars (33-31, 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8) in Merced.

Lodi head coach Krista Brereton said it was a back-and-forth battle from the start, but in the end Lodi (22-8) came up a little short in the season-ending loss.
