It needed to win two out of three games to qualify for the water polo California State Championships and that’s exactly what the Lodi Water Polo Foundation’s 12th-grade-and-under girls squad did over the weekend.

At a qualifying tournament at Dougherty High School in San Ramon, the LWPF squad beat Bear River 13-6, but then lost 13-5 to Stanford to force a must-win game against Ohlone. Lodi won the match 8-4 to earn a state championship berth. LWPF was led by the strong play of Tokay High’s Taitum Herrington and Sydney Iturraran and Lodi High’s Molly Bria and Lauren Plunkett.
