  Doug, was this comment misplaced? What in the world does City Hall or the utility department have to do with a hi school football coach?

  I do not know how much more clear I could have possibly made it. .. The entire point of my post was to prevent gossip... I did post at 9:07 am on Sun, Nov 18, 2012..."Seems to me better to explain what really happened than let rumors dominate the city. I think the players and parents deserve the truth".

  I brought up the Gonzales case as back then, some players and various people in the know who witnessed certain things, were talking. Since the people who were talking had credibility what was heard was thought to be truth... but you are right, could be classified as rumor...

  Don't you think rumor is inevitable when the only explanation is that “we have decided to go in a different direction?

  Nothing more than business as usual at LEUD and city hall, no real explanations needed. This paper would be the last to publish it anyway.

  Darrell, the Gonsalves situation was completely different. He had completely used up his second chances. You may recall that the Tokay basketball program had been suspended from playoffs due to undue influence and a variety of other CIF violations. He was on thin ice already. And I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that the school is not permitted to discuss "personnel" issues publicly without the threat of a lawsuit from the teachers union. Besides, all coach's are hired on a annual basis and there is no assurance that he/she will be hired the following year. I wouldn't know Todd Dillon if I ran into him and have absolutely no dog in this fight. All three of my children attended Tokay High School.

  I too am saddened by the firing of Coach Dillon. I agree that a more appropriate tactic could have been taken. My son enjoyed playing under Coach Dillon. Good luck to him in any future endeavors.

  I wonder if the real reason for the firing will be made public, or will the public buy the old line of...just wanted to go in a different direction.

  I remember when Tom Gonzalves of Tokay was fired under similar circumstances that resulted in many rumors were going around how a certain well known and politically connected family, whose son was a freshman that year, was offended at the coach and put pressure to have him fired... which he was, and has sense gone on have a wonderful coaching career.

  Seems to me better to explain what really happened that let rumors dominate the city. I think the players and parents deserve the truth.

  Very saddened over Todd Dillon's firing at Lodi High. I disagree with this move and thought that Todd worked wonders with this team and with what was given to him. I had a knot in my stomach when I first heard the news. Coach Dillon is an excellent football coach and will be missed on the Lodi sideline and should be welcomed wherever he may end up next year. I'm lucky to have played under him for three years and he will always have my utmost respect as a coach and as a leader. It takes a special person to coach at Lodi high and it will be difficult to fill Todd's shoes, shirt, and tie on the sideline. I wish him the best of luck in the remainder of his coaching endeavors and I'm hoping he has success elsewhere.

  Although there comes a time in any program where change is needed, i for one am saddened that it was released from the school this way. After 15 years , i feel it would have been better served for all involved to come to an agreement that he resigned. Coach Dillion and his staff have poured there heart and souls into this program, and whether they were successful or not in the win/loss column, the job that he and many like him do at this level is measured on the impact they make on our youth as future citizens of this planet. Again, im just disappointed that out of respect, Lodi High couldn't, or wouldn't use a more respectful approach to announcing this news.
