Lodi has a rich and colorful history in sports. Following are a few highlights during the 40 years I was sports editor of the News-Sentinel, from 1949-89.

Football has always been a special sport from the time Lodi High first fielded a team in 1921. The most successful coach in the program's rich history was John Giannoni, who guided the Flames to six titles and six second-place finishes in 14 seasons from 1951-64.
