It’s a rarity that Steven Kayson isn’t on the sideline coaching his Tigers. Despite being in a 20-year battle with lymphatic cancer, the third-year Tokay High boys basketball coach schedules his chemotherapy for the offseason and hardly ever misses a game.

On Wednesday night, two days out of jaw surgery to remove cysts that involved cutting his tongue in half, Kayson wasn’t able to make it to Tokay’s Tri-City Athletic League contest against Edison.
