More than 500 swimmers and thousands of supporters braved the sweltering heat on a blistering weekend at the Tokay High pool, turning the surrounding area into a shade-tent city in what amounted to a huge tailgate party also known as the Lodi Summer League Championships, a city tradition dating back to the late 1960s.

With temperatures soaring into the 100s on both days of the two-day event, swimmers found relief in the soothing waters of the pool while parents and volunteers ducked under the temporary shade tents, the parents coming out just long enough to root for their kids before scurrying back to their shelter.

Even with the extreme heat, the swimmers appeared to have a good time competing. Thanks to Lodi City Swim Team for organizing and running the meet, couldn't have done it without them.
