Johansen head soccer coach Hugo Valdez knew Lodi had a strong attack, one that had only been held scoreless three times in 21 matches this season. So he prepared, stacking his players on defense in Tuesday night's Sac-Joaquin Section Division I quarterfinal playoff game and it paid off as the Vikings blanked the Flames 1-0 at Don Gonsalves Stadium at Johansen High School to end Lodi's season.
After the emotional loss for Lodi, which made its second consecutive trip to the section quarterfinals, Flame head coach Tim Stutz told his team they had some of the best combination play and ball possession he has seen at the high school level in his long coaching tenure.
