After excelling in basketball for the past decade, former Tokay star might have an NFL calling

Portland State tight end Julius Thomas looks to run up the field during a game last fall. Thomas, a former Tokay High standout basketball player who converted to football after a succesful basketball career with the Vikings, is playing in the East-West Shine Game today. Thomas is hoping to be selected in April's NFL draft.

The Game: The annual contest is the
longest-running all-star college football game. It serves as a
showcase for the NFL scouts to check out prospects for the draft.
The game is also benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Local Connection: Former Tokay High graduate
and basketball star Julius Thomas will be playing for tight end for
the West. After playing four years of basketball at Portland St.,
Thomas joined the football team last season and caught 29 passes
for 453 yards and two touchdowns.

Today, Julius Thomas will be taking the field with some of the
top college football players in the country when he suits up as one
of three tight ends on the West squad for the annual East-West
Shrine Game in Orlando, Fla.
Thomas is hoping for a stellar showing so that in late April, he
will once again be grouped with college's best players and be
selected in the NFL Draft.
