Hungry for more: Jake Lear, Lodi Flames look for repeat
Lodi High senior and returning San Joaquin Athletic Association MVP Jake Lear is looking to lead the Flames to back-to-back league titles.

Last Year: Boys won the San Joaquin Athletic
Association and advanced to the semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin
Section playoffs before losing to Davis 17-6.

Noteworthy: Seniors Allan Daniells, Austin Kidd
and Blake Montgomery and juniors Jack Morris, Connor Silva and
Michael Whiteside are also on the Flame roster this year.
Head Coach: Shane Mahoney, first year.
Last Year: Took second place in the Tri-City
Athletic League. Lost in the first round of the section playoffs
19-3 to section runner-up Davis.
Key Returners: Senior Danny Kemether (utility),
juniors Cole Mahoney (utility) and Seth Yund (goalie).
Key Additions: Sophomores Jack Hahn and Sam
League Favorites: St. Mary’s and Tokay.
Noteworthy: Mahoney replaces Kraig Jorgensen as
Tokay’s coach as Jorgensen is now an assistant at Lodi High.
Mahoney starred on Tokay’s water polo team from 2002-04, including
helping the Tigers win the Sac-Joaquin Section championship in 2004
and being named the section MVP.

Whether he is swimming or playing water polo, it's hard to find
Jake Lear when he's not in the water. The Lodi High senior has made
a career of scoring goals for Lodi in the pool in the fall and then
earning invitations to the Sac-Joaquin Section meet in the spring.
He says he likes both sports equally and just focuses on whichever
is in season.
Right now, it's water polo time and the reigning San Joaquin
Athletic Association MVP is leading a senior-stacked Lodi squad
with hopes of repeating its SJAA championship and top-four finish
in the section playoff bracket last year.
