The Lodi Flames varsity girls basketball team suffered its first league defeat Thursday, but the Flames didn’t go down without a fight. Lodi rallied from a late seven-point deficit to take the lead in the final minutes against the Bear Creek Bruins, but the visiting Bruins responded and escaped with a 58-56 victory in The Inferno at Lodi High School.

The Flames (12-8, 3-1 San Joaquin Athletic Association) were down 53-46 when they caught fire, going on a 10-2 run to take a 56-55 advantage over the Bruins (17-4, 2-2 SJAA). Macy Barajas and Cassidie Head both knocked down 3-pointers during the spurt.
