Last season, Lodi broke a 26-year stretch without a league title. On Wednesday night, the Flames snapped another 26-year skid. In a close dual match where nine of the 11 contested bouts were settled by decisions, including Jacob Holley’s 7-1 victory in the final and deciding match, the Flames pulled out a 29-27 victory over cross-town rival Tokay for their first win over the Tigers since 1984.
“It’s been 26 years and it is good to see our team go out there and finally get the win,” Holley said. “We beat Calaveras Tuesday night, so we have a lot of momentum going into this match. Our team was pumped up and ready for it, and they all went out there and did their jobs.”
