Gianna Pitto got off to a record-breaking start at the Sierra Nevada Junior Olympic Long Course Championships.

Pitto, one of 12 Lodi Swim Club members competing in the event at the Redding Aquatic Center, set a new club mark in the 200-meter breaststroke prelims on Thursday morning. Pitto, swimming in the 11-12 division, blazed to a time of 2 minutes, 58.34 seconds, breaking Meghan Lord’s old record of 2:59.55 from 2001. While Pitto’s time finals time was just a little slower at 2:59.69, it was still good enough for second place.
