A popular coach who changed the culture of a struggling high school football program has lost his job amid layoffs in the Lodi Unified School District.
Scott Swartz worked swiftly in two seasons at McNair High School to correct behavioral issues, improve academic performance and instill a sense of pride in his players. He taught physical education by day, cultivated a fledgling football program by night and drove players home from practice before going home to his wife and two daughters.
