Boys basketball: Elliot Eagles hope tough early schedule will have them ready for run at championship

Carl Wilkerson knew his basketball team would be good so he tested them early. So far, they’ve passed.

Wilkerson is in his fifth year as coach of the Elliot Eagles varsity boys basketball team and started the season against two higher-level teams. The Eagles are in Division V and won their opener 79-76 over Beyer (Division II) and then missed a pair of free throws in the final seconds to lose 58-56 to Manteca (Division III).
