Dethroned? Yes. Still dangerous? Absolutely. The five-year title reign came to an end this spring, but a “down year” for the Elliot Eagles varsity softball team was still a season other schools may envy: A return trip to the Sac-Joaquin Section final, the Eagles’ 10th straight, and a narrow 11-10 loss.
That Elliot came so close to a sixth straight crown, despite a brand-new freshman pitcher, spoke to the team’s loaded roster — a mix of dynamic youngsters and savvy veterans that was recognized in the all-league awards.
