Boys basketball: Hot start has Hawks flying high

The Thompson Chevrolet Holiday Classic was supposed to be Patterson's to win. But the Liberty Ranch Hawks varsity boys basketball team had other ideas last Friday.

Trailing throughout the first three quarters, the plucky Hawks rallied for a 73-65 upset against the favored tournament host. "It was a hostile environment, against a good team. An intense game," said Liberty Ranch's first-year head coach Josh Williams, whose team finished as the tournament runner-up. "We shocked them. The guys were like, 'The sky is the limit if we can stay focused.'"
