Track and field: Phil Kruse likely Lodi’s best chance for trip to state track meet

The 100-meter dash, the 4x100 relay — those are the races track and field fans typically get fired up for. Not the 3200.

That changed Friday when Lodi Flames distance runner Phil Kruse was coming down the home stretch in the two-mile. The fans in the grandstands cheered according to Flame coach Robert Winterhalter as Kruse broke the 35-year-old School record in the 3200 before collapsing just past the finish line.
