Any doubt about the Tokay Tigers deserving a playoff spot in boys basketball has been answered. The 15th-seeded Tigers played in Fairfield against No. 2 Rodriguez and gave the Mustangs a scare in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs Wednesday. Tokay was in it until the finals seconds before losing 70-65.

With 35 seconds left, the Tigers trailed 67-65 when Tokay’s Nico Brusa missed a 3-pointer that was recovered by teammate Kashif Afzal. Afzal went up for the putback inside but just missed. Rodriguez took possession after that and Tokay was forced to foul down the stretch.
