Spirit of Christmas 2004

My fourth Christmas was the most memorable

The Christmas season is always a jolly season for me! With all of the happy people, gifts and wonderful food, it is hard not to be. I enjoy Christmas season every year. However, my most memorable Christmas yet was the first Christmas that I can remember, my fourth Christmas.

2nd Place

It was Christmas Eve, and I wanted to see Santa. At the age of four, I thought I had known everything. I wanted to know what Santa actually looked like. I had heard that he had a cherry red nose, white beard, black boots, a big, gold belt and soft eyes, and had worn a red suit with a red hat. This was not enough for me. The young and adventurous, yet nosey little girl wanted to make sure. All I had to do was stay up late. It was going to be a difficult task.

My mom, dad and I were visiting my grandparents' house. We were watching a holiday special. Grandma, a tall, slender and pretty woman, was in the kitchen cooking us a great dinner.

I walked into the kitchen. The smell of turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing immediately made my mouth water. "Gramma, is dinner ready?" I asked.

She smiled and said, "Almost, so no eating any snacks. Okay, Ashlee?"

"Okay, gramma," I said. I gave her a big hug and walked out of the kitchen.

After a great dinner, we went back into the front living room. By ten o'clock, I was getting kind of tired. Dad saw that I was tired and asked, "Honey, why don't you go play in your room?"

I was the only grandchild, and all of my grandparent's children had already moved out. They had an extra room so they made it mine. I visited often, so it was a good idea to have a room there. Before going into my room, I had my mom, a happy, caring and loving person, who was much like my grandmother, let me know when Santa got there. She agreed but made me give her a kiss before departing.

I walked past the kitche, down the hall and into my room. My room was a small room, but it was big enough for me. I loved my room. I had my uncle's old bed in there so it took up about two thirds of the room. The other third of the room was my toys. I had dolls on my white shelf in the corner, and my grandma's Gone with the Wind Knick knacks were right under them on another white shelf. I loved them so much that grandma let me have them. My favorite part of my room was my pink walls.

By eleven o'clock, I was getting tired of playing. I had already dressed my dolls, played on my sit and spin, played with my blocks, looked at the pictures in my books and made up stories for the pictures.

I heard a big boom in the living room. My mom yelled, "Ashlee!"

Right after I heard, "Ho! Ho! Ho!" I knew it had to be Santa.

I jumped up and ran into the front living room. I ran right past my present and looked out of the window. Santa was gone, but he left me a kitchen set for Christmas. My present made me happy enough-until next year!
