Spirit of Christmas 2004

A Christmas wish sealed with a kiss

Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, that's waht I thought the first time I saw him. Bobby Jones was a senior my freshman year. He was beautiful, tall and strong with the most striking blue eyes. When I saw him I wanted his kiss, but that just wasn't in the agenda. According to the adults running my life, school and my studies were the only things I was to worry about for the next eight years. What about me, and what I want, don't I deserve some say in this? Oh, well, there's no way I would be kissed by Bobby anyway, but a girl can dream. Can't she?

I'm Alyse Curry and I want to tell you about my Christmas wish. In 1996, I started my freshman year at Carmen High School. It was so scary everybody was older, and none of them looked as lost and confused as I was. I saw girls wearing lip color that I didn't even know they made, and boys with facial hair. I thought only men my dad's age had that. I was sheltered, a home schooled country girl until mom went back to work. My only friends were John and Mary who lived next door to me my whole life. Where were they? Oh there they are, and they are trying to figure out how to open the locker.

I started towards them, but then noticed my shoe was untied. I bent down to tie it but, I hit the floor. The senior girls don't like the under dogs, and think it ok to push them around. I looked up, there standing over me was a GOD, at least I thought so. "Are you ok?" he said with a slight giggle. "Ah, yeah," I struggled with the words, "Thanks." He held out his fand and as quick as I went down I was up again. Then the bell rang and he was gone.

Over the next months, I found out everything I could about Bobby and filled my notebook with hearts, doodles and most importantly, trying to figure out the perfect wa to write my future name; Alyse Jons, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Alyse Jones, or my favorite; Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Jones. Lucky for me that he was a teacher's assistant in my science class. I got to see him every day, and I would play the dumb blonde card every now and then. Asking questions like, "What's a cell," even thought I knew perfectly that it was the fundamental structure of all living organisms. He would give me that little giggle and help me.

I was so excited that my parents said I could go to the Christmas dance. Bobby would be there. It was a week after Christmas, and I had gotten everything that was on my wish list, but something was missing. I still hadn't been kissed.

I went to the dance with John and Mary and their dates, but I was alone. I didn't see Bobby anywhere. I did what loners do, I wanted something to drink. I walked into the room to get a soda. I heard someone say, "Hi Alyse." I turned around and there Bobby was, standing in the door way. I walked towards him and he pointed up and said, "Mistletoe, do you know what that means?" Oh, boy did I ever, He took my face in his hands and ... he kissed me, he kissed me, he kissed me.
