Remembering times with entire family

My grandmother never really understood what to get her grandchildren for Christmas, or so it seemed. But none of us were ever upset by what presents she would end up giving us, for they were always a bag of Hershey’s chocolate. Every year, my family would all come together, But at the age of 8, I had my most memorable Christmas. My entire family met together at my aunt and uncles house, on the eve of Christmas. My entire family included the four in my family, my aunt, uncle, four cousins, and my grandparents. This year, undoubtedly, was to be my favorite Christmas, for it would be the last in which all 12 of us would be able to come together.

That afternoon, the twelve of us ate our delicious, smoked ham dinner. Traditionally, my aunt made her delicious marshmallow fruit salad, my mother made her extraordinary devilled eggs, and my grandmother made her famous stuffing and mashed potatoes. As we had done every year before, after dinner, all the grandchildren piled into the living room to start the opening of presents. This was, undoubtedly, the most exciting part of an 8 year old’s Christmas.

All six of the cousins sat in anticipation on the floor, dreaming of what we possibly might receive. Although so long ago, I remember being in hopes for anything related to Winnie The Pooh, for he was absolutely my favorite. And as we always do, the oldest cousin gets to open the first present, leaving me to be the last to open.

Of course, we each receive a bag of Hershey’s chocolate, from my grandparents, along with the biggest hug and kiss we can get. Eventually, just a short while later, we finish opening all of the presents. This is the second best part of the night. We are able to actually play with all the fun things we got. We spent the next few hours just fiddling and enjoying the spectacular new toys and games we received.

This Christmas was my favorite Christmas. Although, the years before were just as great and the years later were no less of Christmas, this one was marked in my book, for it was the last Christmas I was able to spend with my entire family. Due to the fact, some people in my family would not be able to make it for the next year. We may not have known it at the time, but this Christmas will always be remembered and cherished by all of my family.
