Remembering holidays with family members
Christmas is my favorite time of the year. It is a time for giving and sharing. Some of my fondest memories are from Christmas and being with my family.
I can remember one Christmas when my family decided to take me and some other friends to Disneyland. We rode all the rides and the park was decorated with lights and greenery for Christmas. All the rides were lit up and it was beautiful. My brothers and sisters all got their pictures taken with Santa after we waited in line for what seemed like hours. Then we only got to be with Santa for a few minutes. I was willing to wait though just to have a quiet chat with him.
That was a memory that I look back on to and smile because I was with my family. We are going again this year and I am looking forward to the decorations and the Christmas spirit that everyone shares.
Another Christmas memory is with my dad and his side of the family. You see, every other year we switch off Christmas and Christmas Eve with my parents and their relatives. My aunt and uncle come out to Galt with their two children to me grandparents’ house to have Christmas dinner. On one visit my uncle made me and my brothers and sisters each a wooden jewelry box. I remember all of the family sitting down at the table and having turkey and mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, and sparkling apple cider. It was really good! Then all eleven of us sat down around the Christmas tree and opened our presents. I got the usual clothes and scarves, along with a calendar and some toys. The best gift though was having all the family around me.
I have lots of fond memories about Christmas and my family. I love this time of year because we get to get together without family as well as learn more about our religion and the reason for the season. It is also a time to build traditions and to make new memories. I am proud of the memories and the traditions that I have and I hope to make many more!
