When I saw St. Nick Emily Highsmith Now, now children, Aunt Lori Ann’s going to tell you a story, a story of long, long ago. This story takes place in, hmmm, let’s see here, aha! It takes place in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Yes, I know it’s a very strange name, but here’s my story. I was 6 years old when this story takes place. It was a very cold, frosty night, you know, like a night where the wind howls and groans, making shivers run up and down your spine. That night was a special night; it was Christmas Eve! Every child was happy on Christmas Eve, for in the morning, good old Santa Clause would leave his gift for each boy and girl, only if they were good. On that night, my dad, George, and my mom, Georgina, made cookies and set them on a plate with a glass of cold, creamy, foamy milk. Then, at 8:30, we kids had to go to bed. Of course, mom and dad got to stay up, but us? No sirree! I thought my parents would eat Santa’s cookies, and, therefore, I stayed up. My parents had no clue I was up, nor (thankfully) did my little sister, Louisa, for she was such a blabbermouth! When the clock struck 9, my eyes began to droop and I began to get tired. Then, I heard a loud thump! I jumped out of bed, opened the door and ran down the hall. My parents were standing there, looking quite bewildered. Standing by the fireplace was the fattest man I’ve ever seen. He was wearing a bright red suit that was outlined with white fur. He was wearing a funny red cap with a white puff-ball on top (like my nighty cap), a big black belt and humongous black shoes. He had rosy cheeks, sparkling blue eyes, white hair and a face covered with soot. He was holding a large burlap bag and right away, I thought it was a burglar. I tried to run to get my dog, Roofus, but my feet were frozen to the ground. I just stood there, clutching my doll, Shelly. Instead of the fat, jolly man taking anything, he pulled some wrapped boxes out of his bag. Then I realized that he was Santa! Excited, I looked just in time to see him step into the fireplace, snap his fingers twice, and say, “Up!” I raced up to my room and looked out my window in time to see a fading figure flying in the sky. I heard a faint shout of, “Merry Christmas and good night!” Lodinews Home | News | Sports
