You bought a home. You have been putting off remodeling the kitchen for some time. But now the appliances need to be replaced. It’s time for the 30-year-old kitchen to be updated. That’s when Sandy Holston of Vision Flooring and Interiors comes in.

As the housing market continues to leave people underwater, no one is moving. And because of this, people are upgrading their living spaces. Last year Holston’s company did 16 kitchen remodels. “That was amazing for us. This year, people are also renovating their master bathrooms.”

Trends the interior designer sees are natural products and natural tones.

“This area is wonderful. Lodi uses beautiful natural tones. In the magazines you’ll see a lot of white and marble countertops that are hard to upkeep. Lodi is not contemporary at all. It isn’t stark but rather embraces the beautiful warm tones.”

Popular products going into kitchens these days are wine refrigerators. Lighting is big, whether it is recessed lighting, pendent lighting, lighting under the counter and cabinets. While white cabinets are big, glazed cabinets are most popular in this area.

When beginning a project, Holston recommends seeing her. She has all the resources and contractors at her hand.

“It is important to have a plan and a time frame,” says Holston. She stresses pre-planning is huge. It can be the difference of a project taking three weeks or three months.

“If you hook up with someone who is bad at time management, it will be a bad experience.”

She once took a job for a judge who had a bet with another judge on whose kitchen would be done first. It took 19 days. When she was done, he took her by the hand, walked the couple of blocks to his friends house and collected his $100. He had won and the other judge was shocked.

By hiring a designer, it gives the homeowner freedom too. “They don’t have to stand over the workers managing them. They can go shopping, while I make sure the job gets done.”

Holston says to look for reputable people to work with.

“Lodi is an amazing place and people do refer you.”

And if you cannot afford a total re-haul project? Holston says, “Mirrors. Mirrors, mirrors, mirrors. It is amazing what they can do for a space. Hang them in the entryway, over the mantel, etc.”

She knows people taking down their 80s bathroom mirrors and updating the look by purchasing two matching mirrors and putting them in their place.

Vision Flooring and Interiors is located at 906 W Lodi Avenue. They can be reached at (209) 369-1166
