Jackie Greene — the Sacramento-area singer known for his sounds that intertwine blues, jazz, rock and folk — is coming to the Lodi Grape Festival for the first time, ever. He’s bringing his guitar and live-in-the-moment attitude.
While touring in the UK last week, he answered a few questions about his music career and his upcoming show at the festival.
Q: What made you want to return to Lodi for a performance at the Grape Festival?
A: I like small towns. The sense of community is very apparent and that’s appealing to me.
Q: Will you stay in town for a while? If so, what will you do — any Lodi favorite hangouts?
A: Unfortunately, no; we’ve got to be back on the road. If we stayed, we would go to Tin Roof BBQ.
Q: For someone who has never been to one of your shows, how would you describe the overall experience?
A: Hard to say. We have an eclectic crowd. Old and young. Some people think we are too loud, some people think we aren’t loud enough. We do all kinds of music — rock and roll, blues, bluegrass and jazz. It’s tough to describe. I just hope people have a good time.
Q: What are some of your songs you’re looking forward to performing at the Grape Festival?
A: I live in the moment, so we’ll see . . .
Q: I know you’re in the UK, can you tell us where else you’ve been and what you’ve been working on?
A: We played up in Edinburgh last night. Tonight we are in London. Tomorrow we’ll be in Bristol. Next week in Holland. It’s been a blast.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: My hot sauce collection. It’s world class. Believe it.
Jackie Greene is performing Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m. on the Budweiser Amphitheater Stage.
