There’s something special happening. Bluegrass at the Lake is what we call it, and it’s may become Lodi’s signature event. Our second annual music festival is Saturday, Sept. 6 at Lodi Lake Park, with free morning workshops and an afternoon filled with great music.

What more could you ask? Great musicians, beautiful scenery, great weather and close to home!

I invite you to join many of your neighbors – and a lot of people who travel throughout Northern California attending weekend music festivals – in a relaxing day that will benefit the various Rotary programs and, I hope, Lodi’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. Simply having an event like this in Lodi, we believe, is a benefit to the community as well.

Thanks to Mark Hamilton, our master of ceremonies, for coordinating the various Rotary clubs in the Lodi-Galt area to put together our Friday night event, and for providing the Rotary volunteers who will help make this event possible. Mark also helped select the bands playing in this show.

Also, thanks to Recreation Manager Jennifer Winn, the event manager, for putting this show together; Park Superintendent Steve Dutra for the logistical help; and Mandi Dumlao, who oversees theater operations at Hutchins Street Square, for coordinating ticket sales.

We received plenty of encouragement from festival-goers last year, and have taken that feedback to make this year’s event even better, with more shade and food options. We want to continue improving, so please let me know how we can do even better. I welcome emails at jhood@lodi.gov

Once again, we look forward to seeing you on Sept. 6!
