Ralph Matthews considers himself a free thinker.

Well, you get what you pay for. His letters must thrill Christians who see in them the utter inanity of atheism's best arguments.

Few people read Greek. The same for King James English. These totally explain the many translations and versions of the Word of God.

Christian syncretism has similar explanation. Few cultures resemble Israel in the wilderness. Nor do they have Israel's calling. If any gods have reason to complain of pagan tradition at Christmas and Easter, it would be Jupiter and Astarte, who today are but curiosities in the lands they once dominated.

The Bible specifically berates those who would put Israel's religious burdens on gentile believers. Christ came to save the whole world, and this not through works of religion.

Christians involved in youth ministry, ethnic ministry, inner city church planting or foreign missions know well that native cultures must be used to advantage.

Faith in Jesus overcomes cultural differences. As evidence, Christian morality under the spirit's guidance is nearly uniform.

If anybody wants to preserve Jewish tradition in Christian worship, I'm all for it. We were all grafted into Israel. But the existence of other traditions in Western churches in no way demonstrates that pew sitters do not use their brains, as Ralph charges. His own brain is being used counterproductively, though I will say, humorously.
