A new ‘creature’ in Christ

If a person be in Christ, not in religion, in the church or in a moral reformation, but in Christ, by faith in Christ, by a new birth wrought in the soul by the Spirit of God, in Christ through electing love, redeeming grace and a living union, he is a new creature (Gallatians 6:15).

Rocky Marciano won because his mother prayed Rosary

One of my favorite athletes was Floyd Patterson, a black man and former world heavyweight boxing champion. As a devout Catholic, he was very kind and a complete gentleman. With his "peek-a-boo" boxing style and haircut, he won many converts in Christ.

Letter writer answers critics about his devotion to Christ

A recent conversation with a much younger man left me reminded that my biblical worldview is rigid and "out of touch," and my perspective on life lacks credibility and reason.

We are descending into spiritual darkness

A portion of this is taken from a letter by Jeff Pollard, pastor of Mount Zion Bible Church in Pensacola, Fla.:

Many Jews converted because of Pope Pius XII

Shallow erudition diminishes the "other" Francis — St. Francis Xavier (co-patron saint of evangelization). However, this true Catholic had a zeal for souls like no other in encountering obstacles — opposition by those who should have helped most in his voyages to the Far East, dangerous high seas considering the ships of the 1500s; extreme pagan lands where the gospel was never preached.

Remember Jesus Christ’s sacrifice this Easter

It's spring again, the loveliest and most hopeful time of the year — "the Jewish spring," a feast of freedom and the Christian celebration of freedom — redemption. A blessed Resurrection Sunday and Passover feast to all.

God: Interracial marriage is OK, but same-sex unions are not

People who are comparing same-sex marriage to legal, interracial marriage precedents need to know that the Father was never against interracial marriage, but has recorded clearly what happened to Sodom/Gomorrah for same-sex relationships/experiences.

Why doesn’t anyone care about intolerance toward Christians?

Our society has become extremely politically correct, and the political correctness watchdogs are everywhere making sure no one says anything to offend anyone.

Eucharist of the Tabernacle is ignored

I was taught patience through a stray "wild" gray cat. He finally trusted me, since he sleeps right through all my noisy work. I talked and whistled to him. Seemed to understand him. Told him to be careful with the flowers.

The secret of inward peace

Of all dust, the worst for the eyes is gold dust. Poverty wants some things, luxury many things, but covetousness wants all things. Misers never rest until they are put to bed with a shovel. They often get so wretched that they would hang themselves, only they grudge themselves the expense of a rope.

Man opposes God out of envy

The News-Sentinel's Religion page letters of Feb. 2 were especially insightful and enlightening. Thanks to the writers and the News-Sentinel for the forum.

Our grandmothers’ America

In times like these, enemies must become allied with the same objective at hand so that we can all enjoy our children and grandchildren, allowing our legacy to carry on through our bloodlines presenting the fruit of our God through our future children.

Be prepared for death, through God

God has a purpose for you, and death is included. No forces in the world are outside of His control. God suffers no foes to trespass on the domain of providence. All things are ordained of God, and specially our deaths under the peculiar oversight of our exalted Lord and Savior.

Government is corrupting the Catholic Church

In 1991, John Szado, 81, died after being brutalized by police in Sacramento's cathedral. The police were invited by the bishop to protect against protests of an inaugural bash honoring pro-abortion and pro-homosexual GOP Gov. Pete Wilson.

If not for God, how would we know good from bad?

David Diskin, in his rebuttal to my guest column on the Newtown massacre, seems to take particular offense at my belief in moral absolute truth.

David Diskin needs trusted guide — the Bible

Wes Hallmark, in responding to free-thinking David Diskin's "Everyone uses their own moral compasses," notes that feelings and emotions are a poor source of moral guidance. This is fundamentally good and sound advice.

We’re in a spiritual battle of our lives

Our fight for political and social justice is a noble but futile attempt at perfecting our world. While it is a necessary but impossible endeavor, it doesn't help in our real battle, which is a spiritual one.

Without God, we have no morals

In response to David Diskin's guest column published Dec. 29: Mr. Diskin says we are dropping "outdated religious law" and making decisions based on our "empathy, love and mutual respect" since people, including Christians, are making their own moral decisions apart from God's laws.

God teaches a lesson

The enemy has infiltrated believers with the intolerances of the world. Hateful acts/words are not from the Father. He commands us to love and do good to even to our enemies (Matthew 5:7).
