Honoring trees

Posted: Friday, January 28, 2005 10:00 pm

Elder Cliff Shirk, left, Peter Stearns and Elder Gordon Minick from Beth Hallel Messianic Fellowship in Lodi planted a red oak Tuesday in Blakely Park. The fellowship, a group of Messianic Jews who worship Jesus, planted the tree on the east side of the park to commemorate one of four Hebrew new years. This new year honors trees. After the planting, fellowship members celebrated by eating grapes, figs and dates, a way to thank God for fruits that are grown in Israel. (Casey Freeman/News-Sentinel)
