The school shooting in Newtown, Conn., has saddened our entire nation. How tragic that the lives of innocent elementary school children and dedicated teachers are cut short in a senseless act of violence.

And while the mental health of the shooter is in question, we must remember that there are many people who struggle with mental illness who don't become mass murderers. Thus, I believe we must look at our current culture.

Andy was not referring to his own posts. He's referring to others which were posted here, then later removed.

Mr Crowder stated... but apparently only Christian opinions are allowed here.

I thought Mr. Crowder, who has mocked and ridiculed Christians in many threads, has claimed to be an Atheist and has many posts not deleted. I too am not a Christian and have many posts not removed. I think his current claim that only Christian opinions are allowed has zero merit.

Andy Crowder: I am not the webmaster and do not make decisions about what is removed. Secondly, my previous response was not due to compliance. I wrote it completely on my own.

Why is the webmaster removing posts that do not violate the rules? Ross Farrow responded to my post, which I do not think he would have done if it was out of compliance, but then the post was removed anyway. Also, there is no "comment removed" message left on the thread as there normally would be. At least three or four posts were removed in this manner today. Why? Mr. Farrow says the paper likes to include a variety of opinions, but apparently only Christian opinions are allowed here.

Mr. Farrow, just out of curiosity, how far does this desire for a variety of "opinions" extend? Would you print a column from Westboro Baptist? If not, why not? And how is Matt Duerr's opinion different? Both praise a god who they believe approves the slaughter of small children.

That said Pastor Nolton would have a point IF these kinds of massacares hadn't been happening all through the US history. Maybe not with automatic guns, but people have given into their darkest voices over and over. From Kent State and University of Texas to Nightclubs set on fire, box trucks filled with explosives and even car drivers plowing through motorcycle groups (funny how the last gets so little news). People have been snapping and taking as many as they can with them for a VERY long time. Look at Nero, he burned his own city down (OK, that predates the US but I am using ti to prove the point that this is nothing new.)

Given this depressing history of man's darkness the real question is how can we, as society, move beyond this. How can we identify and help these troubled people at an earlier age, before they crack? How can we teach to express rage without killing people? Are we to a point in our development that we need to have anger management be a part of our children's education?

Andy Crowder: Just because someone from the public writes a guest column or a letter to the editor doesn't mean our newspaper necessarily agrees with what is expressed. Publishing Pastor Nolton's guest column doesn't mean the News-Sentinel either agrees or disagrees with his sentiments. We would like a variety of opinions on issues submitted to our paper.
