Religious leaders in the Lodi-Galt area disagree on what the Bible says about the death penalty. The News-Sentinel asked local pastors their take on the death penalty in response to strong opposition announced this week by the California Catholic Conference.

The California Catholic Conference's statement, forwarded to the News-Sentinel by the Stockton Diocese, was released when it was believed that Albert Greenwood Brown would be executed this week at San Quentin State Prison. However, U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel canceled the execution.
