When the Rev. Elaine Breckenridge arrived in Lodi at the end of last year, she barely had time to unpack before she was caught up the intensity of Advent and Christmas at St. John’s Episcopal Church. As the new priest in charge, it was a challenge, but one she met with openness, knowledge, common sense and a sense of humor.

She and her husband, Frank “Breck” Breckenridge, arrived from hilly Spokane, Wash., quite a different milieu from Lodi’s flat valley, but at least she can see mountains in the distance. Breckenridge, born and raised in Salt Lake City, loves mountains. Her husband, a landscape designer, right now is very much interested in familiarizing himself with the trees and plants peculiar to Lodi and San Joaquin County.
