Many local churches consider mission work - going to an underdeveloped country generally to perform benevolent work and expose residents to Christianity.

Mexico is a popular location, especially for teens during spring break. They'll spend a week in a poor town or village and help them build homes and churches, provide basic necessities including food and medical care. After performing that work, missionaries often discuss their faith in God with the people who live there.
