Lori Sawdon is First United Methodist Church’s first female pastor

Family: Husband, Mark, and one son, Jeff, who will be attending film school at Chapman University.
Background: Sawdon grew up in Sparks, Nev., and was active in the Methodist church there. Her mother was the church secretary. In high school, her pastor saw “her gifts for ministry,” and helped her decide to become a pastor.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in religious studies from University of the Pacific and a master’s of divinity from the San Francisco Theological Seminary.
Hobbies: She enjoys gardening and attending musical theater performances, especially when her son has been involved with the shows.
Favorite vacation: She went to New York several years ago for eight days, and saw four Broadway shows and went to all of the tourist attractions.

For the first time in the 160 years since Lodi’s First United Methodist Church was founded, a woman is filling the role of senior pastor.
Lori Sawdon started on July 1 at the church located at Oak and Church streets. She replaced Alan Kimber, who served as pastor for a decade.
