Last year, no more than 10 people attended Sunday services at the Buddhist Church of Lodi. Now, 50 to 100 people show up on Sundays, and they aren't all Japanese any more.
Buddhism in Lodi and nationwide is changing. In the 1970s, Lodi's minister spoke only Japanese. Ministers at the time were trying to meet the needs of firstand second-generation Japanese in Lodi, according to the current minister, Harry Gyoko Bridge III, who is half Japanese.
