Staging your home can lower the risk of losing perspective buyers
From cabinets and closets to attics and garages—when a home’s storage spaces seem like they’re ready to burst at the hinges, listings look cluttered and messy, and they risk losing the interest of prospective buyers
When you are looking to sell your home there are a lot of things that sellers overlook. Here are just a few things to remember when you are cleaning up your home to sell. It is not about you when you’re selling your home, but about the buyer and the perception of how they view your home over the next one.
Sellers often overlook their closets. Have your sellers start sorting and de-cluttering. Buyers love to look in them to see how big they are and what the storage is like. If there is too much in the closet it can look to small and say to the buyer not enough room for my clothes which could kill the deal. Also remember, if you have shelves in your closet take some of the boxes out, this could also be over whelming to the prospective buyer. Look organized!
When buyers are looking in the kitchen, they will open your drawers and cabinets to see how deep they are. The best thing to do is get rid of the stuff that you normally need in those drawers, put it in a box and set it aside. When something is clean and organized it is more inviting and appealing to the eye. Function is very important in the kitchen. Most buyers are looking for counter space and storage. Put a lemon or lime in your garbage disposal, it is better not to know what you had the night before. Do not forget to remove all of your personal items off the refrigerator.
If you have a lot of furniture, buyers will not be able to see how big the living area is. Take some furniture out and make it less cluttered. Take down some of your personal pictures; you can leave a few, just not the entire wall. If you have stacks of magazines or children’s toys, put them away for the time being, you can always drag them out when you get home. This may be the only time this buyer will come back in your home. Make it one they will remember, one they will want.
These are just a few tips on helping you sell your home. Good luck, and remember to contact your local Realtor for more help on selling your home.
Have a Great Week!
