In the article on the "end times" on Nov. 14, Beth Hallel Messianic Fellowship was invited to submit a commentary on "the Last Days."

After the identification of our congregation, the words "Jews for Jesus" were inserted by the News-Sentinel. A number of people in Lodi believe that we are connected in some way with Jews for Jesus or that we at least have similar beliefs. That is not true.

Jews for Jesus is an organization whose primary purpose is the evangelism of Jews. That is good and proper. They go much further.

I wear a kippah (head covering), and because I am easily identifiable as a Jew, I have been approached by Jews for Jesus missionaries in Sacramento and Los Angeles. They indicated to me, in answer to my questions, that if I accept Jesus as my savior and lord, I don't have to keep the Sabbath or any holy days which are noted in scripture. When I ask what I should do instead of adhering to those Jewish practices, they suggest that I find a Christian church which meets on Sunday, become an active member and continue to study with them.

I agreed to receive literature from them, which coincides with what I was told by their street missionaries. I twice spoke with Moishe Rosen, founder of Jews for Jesus. He taught the missionaries and, of course, believes and teaches the same thing.

Beth Hallel, on the other hand, believes and teaches that Yeshua (Jesus) was Jewish in every way. He kept the seventh-day Sabbath as well as Pesach (Passover), Shavuot (Pentecost), Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) and even Chanukah.

We, like Yeshua's apostles, teach that if we want to be like the Messiah, we must do what He did and teach what He taught. Thus, we keep the Shabbat (seventh day) and all Jewish holy days, and strive to live a Jewish lifestyle as the Messiah would want us to.

Of course, we are much more than that. If you want to know more, visit us sometime. Our ads are in the Friday edition of the News-Sentinel.
