Let us settle it in our minds that whether we like it or not, the sovereignty of God is a doctrine clearly revealed in the Bible and a fact clearly to be seen in the world.

Upon no other principle can we ever explain why some members of a family are converted and others are left in their state.

One account only can be given. All is ordered by the sovereign hand of God. Let us pray for humility in respect of this deep teaching. Let us remember that our life is but a vapor and that our best knowledge compared to God is folly.

The election of grace, which is so often denounced, is a fact which men need not speak against. I believe the doctrine of election, because I am quite sure if God had not chosen us the church, or also called the bride of Christ, we would have never chosen Him. I am sure He chose us before we were born, or He never would have chosen us afterward.

He must have elected us for a reason unknown to me, for I never could find any reason why He should have looked on me with special love.

Many persons want to know their election before they look to Christ, but it is only discovered by looking unto Jesus. Electing love has selected some of the worst to be made the best (Apostle Paul Is one of them).

If God had set His choice upon us, let us aim to be choice men. Let your hope rest on the cross of Christ, the blood of Christ, the name, person and work of Christ. Think not on election, but on Christ.

Martin Luther strongly asserted, “If any man doth ascribe of salvation, even the very least, to the free will of man, he knew nothing of grace, and he had not learned Jesus Christ aright.”

We did not ask God to redeem us by the blood of His Son. All these things were done before we were born.
