Letter: We must stand strong against corruption

The News-Sentinel’s front page photo of Bishop Blair with the large headline, “Catholic Diocese of Stockton to declare bankruptcy,” Jan. 14, was a sad article to read.

Any time the cause of Christ is besmirched, it’s a travesty, woeful and heart wrenching, like Christ being scourged all over again. When we do violence to each other, especially the weakest of us, our kids, we do violence to God. Hell must have a special region reserved for child murderers and molesters.

If there’s a positive in this negative mess, it’s in lessons learned and knowledge gained — seeing and understanding the truth of Scripture being substantiated by its prophecies unfolding before our very eyes.

The church is a living organism and as such susceptible to the world’s disease — which is its institutions of church, state and business being permeated with the corruption, violence and perversion of us fallen men. We are a shameless and lawless lot, deceitful and desperately wicked. Yes that includes all of us, even our religious clergy. My dear old dad used to joke that he sat in the back of the church because Lucifer and his aides are in the front pew. Dad understood the church is under incessant attack and he knew the believer’s mind is the battlefield and last bastion of belief.

The Adversary’s lie is the prophetic apostasy we see and hear. It is described in Holy Scripture it must occur. As difficult as it is to watch these attacks on our faith, we have the peace and hope of knowing this apostasy and corruption will be destroyed. As believers we must stand strong in the armor and truth of God. And please, pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
