Those who say the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, was just another woman should consider the bonds all children have with their mothers. They carry their mother’s mitochondrial DNA and the mothers carry each of their children’s natal cells.

In addition to physical bonds, Mary had spiritual bonds and burdens. Those bonds culminated at the foot of the cross where she experience what felt like a knife was twisting in her heart those three hours before Jesus died. And just as Elijah was taken away in a Chariot of Fire, Jesus’ mother was Assumed into heaven, escaping the corruption of the grave.

Above all else Jesus would have loved his mother more than any other person on Earth. She, in turn, would have loved her son more than any other person on Earth. From the moment of the Annunciation, through her birth pangs, a pure, divine love developed that endures forever. The reciprocation of this divine love makes her the most blessed of all women, for all time.

Just another woman? I don’t think so.
